Qualifications:
Dr. Perry is a board-certified plastic surgeon, educator, author, and former medical regulator with decades of experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He served on the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners from 1995 through 2005, where he participated in the drafting and implementation of regulations that remain effective today. In recognition of his contributions to medical oversight and physician regulation, he was named an Honorary Fellow of the Federation of State Medical Boards for a ten-year period.
In addition to his regulatory service, Dr. Perry worked for ten years as an inspector for AAAASF-accredited surgical facilities, evaluating ambulatory surgery centers for compliance, patient safety, and operational standards. His professional background combines clinical medicine, medical governance, patient communication, and surgical education.
Dr. Perry is also widely known as a medical author and public educator. He wrote the New York Times bestselling book You: Being Beautiful and authored Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery, published by Yale University Press and recognized with a Gold Award for Best Health Book of the Year. He has appeared repeatedly on national television, including eleven appearances on The Dr. Oz Show, and has hosted the long-running radio program What’s Your Wrinkle® on WOR and WABC since 2009.

Experience:
Unlike many retained medical experts who no longer practice clinically, Dr. Perry remains an active surgeon. He currently performs surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He also supervises and trains plastic surgery residents affiliated with Columbia University through the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat resident clinic. His testimony is therefore informed by current operating room experience, evolving surgical standards, and modern patient-care protocols.
Over the course of his medico-legal career, Dr. Perry has been retained by plaintiffs’ counsel, defense attorneys, hospitals, physicians, insurance carriers, and government entities. He has served as an expert witness for the State of New Jersey in criminal proceedings, represented injured patients in malpractice matters, and consulted on behalf of physicians and healthcare institutions facing claims involving cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. His experience on multiple sides of litigation provides a balanced and credible perspective in contested medical matters.
Dr. Perry has additionally contributed to nationally recognized investigative reporting concerning patient safety issues in cosmetic surgery. In 2019, his analysis relating to Brazilian Butt Lift fatalities assisted investigative coverage published by USA Today and later referenced by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Vox. He also appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, Red Table Talk, and Access Hollywood in connection with those discussions. His opinions and conclusions have been examined through extensive editorial and investigative review.
