Dr VandenBurg is a highly experienced medico-legal expert with specialist expertise in pharmaceutical medicine and clinical pharmacology.
He provides independent expert opinion in civil and criminal cases involving prescription drugs, illicit substances, and issues of impairment, dependency, and behavioural impact. His work includes medico-legal reporting, case review, and advising on prescribing standards, adverse drug reactions, and the interaction between pharmacology, behaviour, and legal responsibility.
He is experienced in preparing clear, well-structured reports for legal proceedings and in presenting complex medical and pharmacological evidence in an accessible and balanced manner.
Dr VandenBurg has acted on instructions from organisations including the Independent Police Complaints Commission (now the Independent Office for Police Conduct), and was an expert witness in the case concerning the death of Sean Rigg in police custody.
