Dr. Keenan has over 12 years of experience providing medico-legal expert reports in family, civil, and criminal matters. He has attended court in relation to his reports and has experience giving oral evidence, including undergoing cross-examination. He has undertaken formal training in medico-legal report writing and courtroom skills, including training at the General Medical Council’s Hallam Centre and completion of the Expert Witness Intensive Training Course in 2012. More recently, in 2025, he completed Cardiff University Bond Solon courses in Excellence in Written Evidence and Courtroom Skills (Civil and Criminal), and holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) Expert Witness Certificate for Family Court work.

Dr. Russell Keenan holds the qualifications MB ChB, PhD, FRCP, and FRCPath. He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists. He completed a PhD in haematology and maintains full registration with the General Medical Council, including a current licence to practise. He undergoes annual appraisal and revalidation in accordance with professional regulatory requirements.

Dr. Keenan is a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist and has held consultant status since 2002. He has over 34 years of experience within the NHS, spanning from 1990 to 2024, including 22 years at consultant level. His expertise covers both laboratory and clinical haematology. For 15 years, he served as Haemophilia Centre Director, leading regional clinical and laboratory services for bleeding and blood clotting disorders. He currently works part-time in a private haematology laboratory. Dr. Keenan has published research across a range of haematological conditions and has authored textbook chapters, including contributions to a major international textbook on bleeding and coagulation disorders.
