Experience:
As a fraternity member, executive, expert witness, lawyer, and consultant, I have over 40 years of knowledge and experience involving fraternities and sororities. I appear as an expert witness in cases related to hazing, wrongful death, sexual assault, and substance abuse, and I have been involved in over 65 matters in the past five years. I am the only Plaintiff's expert with fraternity executive experience.
Interestingly, I am currently working on a case in Massachusetts involving a coed crippled in the collapse of a homecoming stage, another New England case where a sorority girl was pushed from a second story window and remains in a coma, and one at Berkeley where a coed was pushed off the roof of the DKE house during a CalDay party. I have just completed two falls from windows, a broken neck falling from a loft and another Berkeley fall from the roof at the Fiji house.
I have published numerous materials on fraternity risk management and history as well as appearing in a variety of media outlets. Quoting a recent settlement by a client in a successful case in Maine: "We really relied on your expertise and insight into the frat relationships."
I bring the following to any matter:
I ran Delta Kappa Epsilon (Deke) National fraternity for 25 years.
I founded and ran the DKE Fraternity Foundation for 29 years.
I can and have dealt with matters all over the United States.
While with Delta Kappa Epsilon, I created a variety of alter ego methods for the Foundation to directly assist tax-deductibly and take over fraternity functions. I also worked with the other Greek foundations to expand the tax deductible abuse of their entities to assist the fraternities.
I was a member of Fraternity Insurance Purchasing Group, Inc.
I was a member of Fraternity Risk Management Trust, Ltd.
I am very familiar with the operations and history of both of the current insurance groups covering fraternities.
I was the Government Relations Chair of both the North American Interfraternity Conference and the Fraternity Executives Association at various times.
I was a founding member of the FratPac.
I am well known in the Fraternity Movement.
I am currently handling 7 cases involving fraternity misconduct - 2 hazing (UCSD and Michigan State), 5 involving injuries or death resulting from Greek activities ( U South Ga, West Chester U, Northeastern, UCal Berkeley, Riley Strain case in Nashville).
I was part of an Investigate TV program on 100 stations in late August: Hazed and Excused: Some National Fraternities shift financial responsibility in hazing deaths through self-created insurance system
