Mr Almond has experience of acting for claimants (60%) and defendants (40%) in personal / occupational injury claims and medical negligence cases including:
- Cases involving abdominal trauma / injury
- Emergency and elective general surgical negligence (including intestinal obstruction, adhesions, peritonitis, appendicitis, acute pancreatitis, abdominal pain, hernias, lipomas, laparoscopic surgery)
- Mis-management of hepatobiliary disease (gallbladder surgery/cholecystectomy, obstructive jaundice, cholangitis)
- Mis-management of upper gastrointestinal pathology (hiatus hernias, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, caustic injury, splenectomy)
- Post-operative complications including bile leak, anastomotic leak
- Mis-management of soft tissue sarcoma including retroperitoneal sarcoma, breast angiosarcoma, and desmoid fibromatosis, schwannoma and ganglioneuroma
- Cases involving mis-management of abdominal tumours including gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) and neuroendocrine tumours
- Mis-management of surgical endocrine pathology (adrenalectomy, Cushing’s syndrome, Conn’s syndrome, adrenocortical/adrenal cancer)
- Cases involving upper GI endoscopy including ERCP

Experience:

Mr Almond is a Consultant Surgeon specialising in Surgical Oncology, Emergency General Surgery including abdominal trauma, and benign Pancreaticobiliary and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. He is the lead for Clinical Governance in Emergency General Surgery across three acute hospitals.

Mr Almond undertook surgical training in the West Midlands, with additional specialist fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota; Harvard University, Boston; Instituto dei tumori, Milan; and The Royal Marsden Hospital, London.

Mr Almond has published more than 70 research articles and book chapters. His research Doctorate was funded through a prestigious Royal College of Surgeons grant and he has received further recent RCS funding to support his ongoing research in rare cancer diagnostics.

Mr Almond has received Bond Solon training in medical report writing. He is registered with the National Expert Witness Agency, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and Expert Court Reports Ltd. He is a member of the MLAS Expert Witness Community and is also listed on the UK Register of Expert Witnesses.
