Services:

Skin camouflage is often recommended when scars have reached a stage where no further treatment can be offered and where scarring causes concern to the claimant. The purpose of skin camouflage is to improve the appearance of the scars. Commonly, mismatched colouring to the scar draw the eye to the area, resulting in unwanted attention to the individual causing the individual to feel self-conscious and often leading to other psychological issues.Skin camouflage uses a variety of products and techniques that can help reduce the visible impact. It can be applied on a daily, regular or ad hoc basis.

Face-to-face Appointments:
My service provides face-to-face time with the client to identify the appropriate products, demonstrate and teach the application techniques. This enables me to provide costs of the chosen products, recommend future treatments or care. Before and after the use of skin camouflage photographs are included in the reports.

My clinics in Bristol are held on Saturday mornings, with some flexibility. However, in the cases of distance, I am happy to carry out face-to-face consultations within solicitors branches or as home visits. These do incur additional costs.

Remote Consultation
An online consultation may be necessary due to travel, time constraints and other limitations. In this instance, the option of providing an actual colour match, demonstration and photographs is not possible. However, with the use of clear photographs, measurements and detailed history, an estimated quantum can be provided.

Experience:

I trained in skin camouflage with the British Association of Skin Camouflage (BASC, disbanded 2023) in 2004. I provided skin camouflage in clinics alongside my NHS dermatology role, until this service was discontinued in 2013. In 2014, I founded Skin Camouflage – Bristol as the service offers valuable support to those suffering with a vast range of skin conditions and scars. This further expanded when approached by Mr Pleat of the Scar Team, Nuffield Hospitals, Bristol who also refers to my services. I have since undertaken the Bond Solon Civil Law certificate and have completed many personal injury and medico legal reports.

I have over 20 years of dermatology experience as a Registered Nurse that covers both medical and surgical aspects of this speciality. I offered pre and post-surgical advice for day cases, and carried out follow up dressings, particularly following Full Thickness Graft and donor site surgical procedures. I also led the Phototherapy service, providing UV therapy for a wide range of skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema and mycosis fungoides. I also monitored medication clinics such as isotretinoin for the treatment of acne, of which regularly leaves devastating scarring. I was a co-member of the British Dermatology Nursing Group (BDNG) sub-speciality of phototherapy where we ran teaching sessions for dermatology nurses across the country, reviewed policies, procedures and SOPs as well as providing teaching presentations.

Furthering my skills, I completed the Sharon Wheeler ScarWork Therapy course, to gain a deeper understanding of scars and treatments.

I am a third-year degree student with the Open University studying Psychology and Counselling. Skin concerns often have a significant impact on individuals, so applying my camouflage, dermatology and psychology skills together will help provide a fully rounded experience to my clients.
