Johann is Australia’s foremost Road Safety practitioner with authoritative and degree-qualified knowledge across multiple elements of the road traffic system, combining his practice of automotive and road infrastructure engineering with human factors and law.
He has a wealth of experience spanning research, consulting, public policy, government and operational roles within the road transport arena, having built this experience base on the foundation of his approach to managing innovation and application of leading-edge technology. His current focus is on the influence of vehicle automation on driver performance and behaviour as an avenue towards improving road safety outcomes.
In the infrastructure arena, Johann holds longstanding Senior Road Safety Auditor accreditation and was one of the pioneers in the Safe System Assessment Framework, in addition to growing the road safety community as a trainer to younger engineers in these road safety methodologies.
Johann is the Principal of Traffic Vehicles & Logistics Pty Ltd, a boutique traffic engineering and road safety firm servicing transport fleet operators, local/state governments and large consulting firms. He is frequently called upon as a vehicle and roads expert witness in criminal and civil litigation court proceedings.
Aside from his contribution on the board of the SAE-A, Johann is also a recurrent presenter at the annual Australasian Road Safety Conference (ARSC) and serves as a Steering Committee Member on the National Road Safety Partnership Programme (NRSPP) because of the direct impact this industry-led initiative brings to fleet safety and road trauma reduction.
