03/19/2018 - International Expert Witnesses Chosen For Grenfell Tower Inquiry


The Grenfell Tower Inquiry has announced Jose Torero, John. L Bryan Chair and Director of the Center for Disaster Resilience in the University of Maryland's A. James Clark School of Engineering, as an expert witness to the Inquiry's examination of the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the fire at Grenfell Tower in London on June 14, 2017.

An internationally renowned expert in the fields of fire safety and resilience, Torero specializes in the behavior of fire in complex environments, including tall buildings, novel architectures, tunnels, and aircraft and spacecraft. He has participated in landmark projects such as the NASA Space Shuttle Hangars in Florida, the 80-story Heron Tower in London, the investigations of the World Trade Center collapses, the Madrid Windsor Tower fire, the Texas City and Buncefield Explosions, and the Ycua Bolanos supermarket fire.

Torero is the only expert in the fire safety field who holds fellowships in the Royal Society of Edinburgh (UK), the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (Australia), the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences (Australia), the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (USA), the Building Research Establishment (UK), and the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
